Who is Social Media's First Graduating Class?

How old is social media really? The average person might tell you it started 12 years ago, when Myspace launched in 2003. But for marketers, things got rolling a little bit later. Brand adoption was slow and steady, until Facebook launched “Brand Pages” just 9 years ago in 2007. So why am I giving you a history lesson? Well, the point I’m trying to make is that the “social media marketer” position is nearly a decade old. Social media has matured a lot since the 2000s, and so have the marketers. Where are the marketers who set up their brand’s first Facebook page, sent their first Tweet, or live-streamed their first event? We’re setting out to find the former early-stage social media marketers who are now directors, executives, founders, etc. These people are members of Social Media’s First Graduating Class. The members of Social Media’s First Graduating Class will be the ones who’ve seen it all and the ones who can tell us what’s next. Know somebody who fits the bill? Tweet your nomination with the #SMFirstClass hashtag and we’ll follow up!
