    Google has unveiled an experiment that will allow Web users to opt out of viewing ads on participating websites. The Contributor service provides the option to hide Google ads on sites for a subscription fee of between $1 and $3. Participating sites will get a proportion of the resulting revenue. "Today's Internet is mostly funded by advertising.

    Amazon is Google's biggest rival in the online search market, Google chairman Eric Schmidt has admitted. The confession came as Schmidt denied claims that Google enjoys an unparalleled dominance of the online search industry. "Many people think our main competition is Bing or Yahoo. But, really, our biggest search competitor is Amazon," Schmidt said in a speech in Berlin.
