This is my first post in “ULTIMATE” blogging and I’m excited. I’ve decided to do a series of posts that will outline the entire process required to start a successful blog and keep growing it, using various different strategies I learned along the way. Many people don’t understand blogging is a business and must be treated like one.

Last week, we had to drive to Las Vegas right after Dot Com Lunch, and the Powerball jackpot was at $900 million. This week, I’m staying home, and the Powerball jackpot went to $1.7 billion, which according to some Facebook math genius means $5.66 million for every person in America! We had a full house for this week’s meetup. We got only seven RSVPs, but 11 people showed up.
How I Would Make $10,000 If I Had To Start Over By John Chow January 19th, 2016 Make Money Online I would like to invite all my readers to attend a special live webinar with Matt Lloyd, founder of MOBE. The webinar will be held this Thursday, January 21 at 9:00pm EST (6pm PST). Matt founded MOBE back in 2009 and grew it into a $100 million company.
Would you like to see what a sales funnel that’s currently making $17,947 PER DAY (not per month) looks like? And, what if you could Objectively (And ethically) knock off this SAME funnel, in less than 10 minutes by using web-based tools? This Thursday, January 14 at 7pm EST (4pm PST), I’ll be doing a webinar with the one and only Russell Brunson, and we’re going to show you behind the scenes o.
The great thing about making money online is you make it no matter what you’re doing or where you are in the world. Therefore, it was a nice surprise to find out that I passed the $2 million commission mark with MOBE while I was partying it up at the Affiliate Summit West in Las Vegas. MOBE is one of the many affiliate networks that I deal with.
In part 1 of the series, I discussed how a simple “idea” can spark something special for you. However, for you to grow and become an authority, you need to start establishing yourself online. The good news is, today, it’s very simple to start publishing content online. For example, you can purchase a domain and hosting for $15/mo. Domains are usually priced at $9.

Affiliate marketers work hard but we play harder. That attitude will help you understand why Affiliate Summit hosts some of the biggest parties in any industry. For as long as I can remember, ShareASale has hosted the opening night party, and they do an amazing job at it. All ShareASale parties have a theme, and the theme for this year’s party was A Golden Gatsby Celebration.
Happy New Year everyone! It addition to the tips I gave you to make 2016 your best year ever, I’m going to add one more tip, and that is to update your blog copyright notice to say 2016. If your blog doesn’t have a copyright notice, you should add one right away. Many bloggers may consider this a relatively minor issue.

The Meet Market is where affiliates and merchants can do some quality face-to-face networking. The Meet Market is very popular with start-up networks on a limited marketing budget.

There are many parties and events at Affiliate Summit. You would expect that since #ASW16 is hosted in a party city like Las Vegas. However, the most exclusive event at the show was the cb:Black Event. Presented by Clickbooth, RevContent, and Thrive, the cb:Black Event is the hardest party to get an invite for. Only 100 invites are given out. It’s for VIP affiliates only.

Blogging is about getting your idea on paper and those who have mastered the skill can produce content without a formal outline, etc. Many times, people have a tough time translating a good idea onto paper and they lose focus along the way. A good idea can do more than transform your blog into a resourceful portal because it can lead to a profitable business.
After taking a nearly one month winter break, the Dot Com Lifestyle meetup is back, and today I hosted the first Dot Com Lunch of 2016. We had three table full of people making it out the patio of Pho Ba Co for afternoon of fine food and networking. Anyone is welcome to join us. Go to the Dot Com Lifestyle m ...
As much as people like to say that they enjoy having the freedom to choose, the fact of the matter is that having too many choices can be overwhelming and paralyzing. This is indeed one of the biggest reasons why Apple has been so successful over the last several years. You’re offered a limited selection that should cover the needs of most customers, rather than inundating them ...
When you run your own blog for a living, you’re going to face a number of challenges on a fairly regular basis. You’re always going to be working on improving your monetization strategy, for example, and there’s always room to move up on those search engine rankings too. Another area where you might encounter the occasional struggle is with content creation.
Despite the innumerable assertions to the contrary, people really do like to be told what to do. It can be much more direct in nature, like how you’re supposed to come to a complete stop when you see a stop sign at an intersection. It can also be a lot more subtle, like how every IKEA store is designed so that you have to walk through the entirety of the store in a maze-like fa ...
I am often asked why I go through the time and expense of attending trade events like the Affiliate Summit West in Las Vegas, or the upcoming MOBE Titanium Mastermind in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. While a show like #ASW16 is pretty easy for me to get to – it’s just a short four hour drive from O ...

My Six Takeaways from Affiliate Summit West #ASW16 By John Chow January 22nd, 2016 Trade Show, Videos As you know no doubt guessed by now, I made a lot of videos during my drive to and from Affiliate Summit West in Las Vegas. One of those videos was about the six key takeaways I got from attending the show. You can watch that video below.
It’s no secret businesses are taking to the Internet to start promoting their products and services. Search engines have made it very easy for people searching online to find businesses located near them by tweaking the search algorithm. It’s very easy for Google to determine when a localized search is being performed.
You might be familiar with the old fable about a man and his goose. This was no ordinary goose, because this was a bird that laid a golden egg every day. Naturally, this man thought that he was very lucky, but he let his greed get the best of him. And in the context of Internet marketing, professional blogging, and otherwise making money on the Internet, the moral of this story ...
Are You Ready for Testimonials? There are many ways to build your brand, but one of the best way is with testimonials. However, this is something I see very few bloggers do. It’s one thing to say you’re great. That can be viewed as showing off or being conceited. However, when someone else says you’re great, it’s seen as something completing positive. Tes ...
Six Figure Blogging: Ask the Experts & Secrets Revealed #ASW16 I have been doing the six figure blogging panel at Affiliate Summit for quite a few years now. It is always among the most popular sessions during the show. We’ve been meaning to change the name to seven figure blogging, but just never got around to it.
The cb:Black Events are the most exclusive events at Affiliate Summit. They are also the hardest to get an invite to. There is one event for Advertisers and one for Affiliates. The events are targeted to just the largest players in the industry. Only 100 VIP Affiliates and Advertisers are granted entry to each event.
Let’s get this out of the way right now. This is dinner at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. it is not Paris, France. However, if you want to get an idea on what it’s like to dine at the real Eiffel Tower in Paris, this is fairly close. The Eiffel Tower Restaurant was the first restaurant we dined at during our time at Affiliate Summit West.
Tender Greens is a fast casual restaurant that combines a fine dining hospitality with a casual, quick dining atmosphere. The restaurants chain serve fresh, healthy, chef-inspired, farmer’s market dishes at an affordable price in a relaxed environment. Instead of going for lunch at McDonald’s and killing yourself, you spend a few extra bucks for a much healthier lunch at Tender Greens.
We spent the first day of 2016 by living the Dot Com Lifestyle at Big Bear Snow Play. Once a ski hill known as Rebel Ridge, Snow Play sports the longest inner tube runs in Southern California. Most people think going down a snow covered hill with an inner tube is pretty harmless fun. However, the runs at Snow Play are quite long, and allows you to pick up a lot of speed.
Link building is the backbone of Google search and it continues to play an important role for websites online. When one site links to another, it shows value not only to you, but to Google as well, which gets you ranked higher within the search engines, generating engagement. I’ve consulted for many people when it comes to search engine optimization and have always encouraged t ...
How Soon Before I Can Make Money Online? While driving to Las Vegas for the Affiliate Summit West, I made a series of Driving with John Chow videos, and one of the videos answered the question, “How soon before I make money online ...
Orange Country receives 300+ days of sunshine a year. Today was not one of those days. However, that’s didn’t stop us from hosting our weekly Dot Com Lifestyle meetup. It was still warm enough for us to dine on the patio. We had 11 people making it out to this week’s meetup. Some old faces and new faces. You’ll meet three of them in this video. Anyone is ...
While the east coast of the United States got hit with a major snow storm, here in Southern California we had some clouds that block off the sun. Then a little sprinkling of rain came down for maybe 60 seconds. However, it was enough to make us move inside for Pho Ba Co because we feared the rain would continue. It ...
Many times, you’ll have great ideas, however, getting them down on paper can be a mission. Many bloggers will agree organizing your ideas is the most important factor before you start publishing. If you can create a solid outline of what you’ll like to write about, then the actual creation process has been simplified.
Make Money Online: Traffic + Conversion = Money By far one of the most asked questions I get is about Internet traffic, and how to get it. Traffic has been drilled into our heads as the lifeblood of the Internet. We are told nothing happens without traffic, and while that is true, it is only half the story. Getting the traffic is one thing ...
Remember when you’d personally phone up a friend to ask what they think about a particular restaurant? Even then, you only got the opinion of a single person based on a single experience. These days, people are much more likely to leverage the power of the crowd by looking at the collected reviews on Zomato or Yelp.
Resolutions and goals are set in the new year more than any other time period. The problem is most people will never keep their resolutions or achieve their goals. Why is that? I believe one of the biggest reasons for failed goals is the setting of the goal itself. It’s pretty hard to achieve a goal when it’s set improperly. For this first Driv ...
I’ve been experimenting with HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography for the past few weeks, and thought I would do a blog post on how to create HDR photos and show some sample high dynamic range shots of the Jaguar F-Type that I got for free. HDR is a technique used in imaging and photography to reproduce a greater dynamic range of luminosity than is possible with standard digit ...
When Should You Start Your Email List? During our drive to Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas, Oscar told me one of the most common newbie questions he gets is, “when should I start my email list?” I figured this would be a great question to answer for this episode of Driving with John Chow. Long time readers will know the answer to this question right away.
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but the right video can be worth a lot more than that! And as the second largest search engine in the world, lagging only behind the almighty Google, YouTube is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to video. You’d be foolish to ignore the incredible potential and opportunity that can be unlocked by publishing videos on YouTube.
After experiencing hot in Mexico and cold in Big Bear, I’m back to just right in Orange County. At least it’ll be just right until I shoot off to Las Vegas this Saturday (these are the problems you face when you live the Dot Com Lifestyle). Since I’m at my second home for a bit, I decided to do a HDR photo walk of my village. For those who don’t know, a photo walk is just that.
