McClatchy published its first newspaper 158 years ago in Sacramento during the California Gold Rush. It has 29 dailies today, but it’s corporate leaders stress again and again that it is no longer a “legacy” media company. They prefer to call it a “digital” media company. It’s true that McClatchy gets 62.4% of its revenue from non-print sources, but not all those sources are digital.
